Rinzler details upcoming Star Wars costume book

storyboardJ.W. Rinzler takes the release of Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy as occasion to take a look at some of Lucasbooks’ other upcoming nonfiction (and humor) releases. He has a bit to say on one of the new books James spotted last month, Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy. It will include new photos of the costumes and interviews with costume designers John Mollo, Aggie Rodgers, and concept artist Nilo Rodis-Jamero. We even have a release date: October 28.

He also talks about the next Jeffrey Brown Star Wars book, Goodnight, Darth Vader, which we’ll start hearing more about soon – and Rinzler confirms there’s a fourth book in the pipeline as well.

Out this week: Original trilogy storyboards, Star Wars #17

storyboards-otOut Tuesday is Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy, J.W. Rinzler’s complete storyboard collection for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. We got a peek at some of these a few weeks back, and of course there’s a trailer as well.

Meanwhile, Wednesday brings Star Wars #17 to the comic shops. The end is nigh: We know that series is ending at #20.

A look at the original trilogy storyboards

anh-storyboardWith the release of Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy less than a month away, Vulture has a look at some of the earliest visuals for A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

The book, edited by Lucasfilm’s J.W. Rinzler, will be available on May 13.

Video: Attack of the Clones bloopers

Last night’s offering from the official Star Wars Youtube channel. Also worth noting, while we’re here: I’ve been doing movie theme days on our Tumblr this week as a way of clearing out the drafts folder (ANH, ESB and today is ROTJ; TPM starts tomorrow) and since I just added a ton of AOTC stuff to drafts, more than I can ever use in one day, thus maybe defeating the whole purpose of doing movie days in the first place…

(Also, question: Are enough of you not on Tumblr that you’d like to see updates on our themes over there? I have been keeping to it, but I haven’t done anything bigger than a day or two on a single theme in a while so I wasn’t sure if it was worth a post here.)

Denis Lawson doesn’t seem particularly interested in more Star Wars. The actor, who played Wedge in the original trilogy, apparently turned down a chance to return to the franchise in 2005. (A Sith cameo?) “Honestly, I made the first Star Wars film in 1976 and it doesn’t really interest me. I know it’s interesting to other people but I get really bored talking about it.” He does talk a bit about his nephew, Ewan McGregor. via

Highlights of Mark Hamill’s Reddit AMA

Hamill's Reddit proofMark Hamill had his Reddit Ask Me Anything this afternoon. Despite a late start and a brief troll issue, it seemed to go swimmingly.

He didn’t say much about Episode VII – sorry, no announcements! This was to promote the Make-A-Wish contest. Though of course he was asked about the Fisher report from the other day:

The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn’t stopped beeping about it.

And when pressed

Haha. I’m not being coy, really. When I find something out, I’ll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet.

I don’t know if anyone actually believes that, but hey, it’s not like we can blame the guy for playing it cool. Below the cut, power convertors, facial hair, keeping secrets and much, much more.
