Rebels packagingJust revealed at NYCC: Matt Kindt (MIND MGMT) will be writing a comic mini-series set during the original trilogy, per Bleeding Cool. Details hopefully forthcoming.

Somewhere in space: @StarWars warns of Imperials, posts original ’76 teaser trailer as rumors fly

@StarWars again warned of ‘Imperial disinformation’ and posted the original ’76 teaser for Star Wars this afternoon, as fans continue to wait with bated breath to see if any Episode VII news is going to drop as rumored.

Meanwhile, Jedi News‘ Jedi Master SQL says we may see our first casting news on the 22nd, with announcements having been “held back” at Harrison Ford’s request, so he doesn’t get slammed with Star Wars questions as he’s doing press for Ender’s Game

Whatever really is happening behind the scenes, check out the ’76 teaser trailer below:

NYCC: Star Wars at New York Comic Con

nycc-logo-2013-loThis weekend is New York Comic Con, and Star Wars will be out in full force – even more than their presence at San Diego Comic-Con back in July. From October 10 – 13, the Javits Center in New York City will be wall-to-wall fandom, and topping it off for Star Wars fans will be Pablo Hidalgo’s panel on Rebels on Saturday at 2:45 pm. On Tuesday, @StarWars warned that there will be a giveaway item at the Rebels panel – some sort of Imperial propaganda.

Del Rey announced their lineup of authors doing signings at their Star Wars Books booth (and free book giveaways), with John Jackson Miller, Drew Karpyshyn, J. W. Rinzler, Ryder Windham, Jason Fry, and Chris Reiff making appearances.

Rooqoo Depot has a great listing of more Star Wars goings-on, including a list of the Star Wars panels (Anthony Daniels! Origami! Making of Return of the Jedi!), as well as booth signings for DK Books and Dark Horse Comics.

Hallmark-2013-NYCC-RancorFor those looking for exclusive merchandise, Hallmark has a Rancor ornament, Kotobukiya has an R2-Q5 ARTFX+ Statue, and Dark Horse has a NYCC sketch cover variant for The Star Wars #1. Her Universe will be selling at the official Reed Pop store.

Pablo Hidalgo giving Rebels presentation at NYCC

Rebels: The GhostThere’s one major media con left for the year: New York Comic Con. And Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo will be there for a presentation on the upcoming cartoon Rebels, StarWars.com announced today. The panel, subtitled ‘Might of the Empire,’ will be held Saturday, October 12 at 2:45 p.m. Here’s the description:

What happens when the Galactic Empire takes over a planet? What if Imperials took interest in your world, and garrisoned Stormtroopers and TIE fighters to maintain order? Star Wars Rebels, the thrilling, all-new animated television series from Lucasfilm for Disney XD will ask those questions — and so will this panel hosted by Lucasfilm’s resident Star Wars expert, Pablo Hidalgo.

Details on the show are closely guarded, but fans at NYCC will get a first look at new art from the series, and learn new information about the formidable forces of the Galactic Empire. Star Wars Rebels is set between Episodes III and IV, and it is a dark time in the galaxy. In the spirit of the original trilogy, the Empire is once again the preeminent villain of the saga, and Star Wars Rebels puts the awesome might of Imperial forces in the spotlight.

The series is still a year away, so don’t miss this chance to get an early look at its development.

We got our most extensive look (so far) at Rebels from Dave Filoni at Celebration Europe in July. It’s expected to begin airing next fall.

There will also be panels on The Making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi with J.W. Rinzler and Jason Fry, origami with Chris Alexander, “Blast-A-Trooper” with the 501st Legion and several licensees, including Del Rey and Dark Horse.

And before you ask…

Sneak peek at Hallmark’s 2013 Star Wars ornaments

Star Wars in the 2013 Dreambook

Sure, it’s a little fuzzy, but you get the idea… And there’s a distinct Return of the Jedi vibe, fitting with this year being the movie’s 30th. We’ll get a closer look when the new ornaments go live on Hallmark’s site. And as for the event exclusive for SDCC and NYCC? It’s the rancor!

Thanks to Rach for the picture, and we’ll let you know when Hallmark takes it all up for public viewing.

EUbits: Get the full story from NYCC

NYCC. Aaron Goins writes up last weekend’s Star Wars Books panel. We may have gleaned the big news then, but there’s more here. Since he was in town, Suvudu talked to Pablo Hidalgo about The Essential Readers’ Companion and Timothy Zahn about Scoundrels. And Tim Zahn met the Emperor!

Interviews. EUCantina talked to Del Rey’s Erich Schoeneweiss about winning back jaded fans, editorial decisions and even those Stover rumors. (Spoiler: Don’t hold your breath) and more. Meanwhile, there’s more Pablo over at BSR, and Bombad Radio has Drew Karpyshyn.

The blogside. On the occasion of old stories coming out into the light again, Charlene Newcomb writes about the birth of Alex Winger. And Steve Sansweet learns to love his action figure book.

Sword of the Jedi. All the news is above, but here are Shelly Shapiro, Jennifer Heddle and Frank Parisi discussing the series with Christie Golden.

HORRORS! Tosche Station’s Nanci is rereading the Jedi Prince books. Oh dear.

NYCC: Her Universe in the New York Times!

With New York Comic Con upon us, it’s of course rather apt that Ashley Exckstein and Her Universe are profiled in the New York Times. Newswise, we learn the company “is expected to reach $1 million in sales this year and turn its first profit.”

Her Universe doesn’t have a booth at NYCC this year, but Ashley will be livestreaming with MTV Geek.

Del Rey gives us a look at the new Essential Characters cover ahead of NYCC

What do we have here? Why, on the right, could that be a mockup/sketch of the new Star Wars: The Essential Characters that was announced at CVI? Doug Wheatley is doing the interior art for the book, and Erich Schoeneweiss says that is his “very rough and not final” sketch for the cover.

Both Del Rey and Dark Horse have Star Wars panels at NYCC this Friday. Del Rey will be revealing one new book (could it be the rumored Matt Stover Imperial Commando title?), and Dark Horse will have some big announcements as well.

Zahn headed to New York Comic Con; Heddle answers fan diversity questions

On Facebook this morning, Timothy Zahn posted that he’ll be attending NYCC in a “spur-of-the-moment decision.” It apperars he’ll be joining Pablo Hidalgo and Jason Fry on the Star Wars Books panel, as well as signings on Friday and Sunday.

Also on Facebook, Lucasbooks editor Jennifer Heddle has addressed concerns being brought up by Mike Cooper on diversity in the EU.
