The Force has conspired to have Free Comic Book Day on the same day as the big celebration of Star Wars on May the 4th. So hop on down to your local comic book shop and May the 4th be with you as you get your hands on this year’s free Star Wars comic by Brian Wood, featuring Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Also, Dark Horse Digital has two great super bundles for sale this weekend, with a preview of J. W. Rinzler’s The Star Wars.
At your shops for Free Comic Book Day, Dark Horse has two free comic books, each containing several stories, and the all-ages book has the 2013 Star Wars tale written by Brian Wood with art by Ryan Odagawa. Entitled ‘The Assassination of Darth Vader’, Darth Vader finds himself in the sights of someone who wants him out of the way, and collateral damage is no issue. But what is Boba Fett’s role in this plot? Put both of Dunc’s favorite characters into one story, and she’ll explode with delight! Note that this book has a flip cover: one side has the Star Wars artwork by Doug Wheatley, while the other side has the cover for the Avatar: The Last Airbender story (and in the middle is a preview story for the upcoming Captain Midnight series).
In the comic shops on Wednesday will be Dark Times: Fire Carrier #4, but don’t forget that Saturday also happens to be Free Comic Book Day and Dark Horse is offering a Star Wars/Captain Midnight/Avatar: The Last Airbender book. More on that later, though…
Meanwhile, next week brings a novel, Tim Lebbon’s Dawn of the Jedi: Into The Void.
Dark Horse Comics announced their stories for their two Free Comic Book Day releases. The publisher will continue their tradition of having flip covers, but will have three different stories in each comic book.
In their all-ages book, the Star Wars story by Brian Wood and stars both Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Also in that book will be a story about Mai from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and a peek into the upcoming series, Captain Midnight, about the search for a superhero gone missing.
In the other comic, we get a trio of stories: R.I.P.D. (by Jeremy Barlow), Mass Effect and a preview of the police-state world of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The best part? They’re free! The worst part? Having to wait until Free Comic Book Day 2013, which is Saturday, May 4.
Knights of the Old Republic: War #5 finishes up the arc on Tuesday in our only release this week.
Not able to get out on Free Comic Book Day? Or not able to pick up everything you wanted? You can read Dark Horse’s offerings online now, including the Han/Chewie story, for a limited time.
May the Fifth be with you! May the Thors be with you? Or something.. But get out to your local comics book shop to get your free comics for this annual celebration of sequential art. As previously mentioned, Dark Horse has a few different offerings, including a Han Solo and Chewbacca Star Wars story, ‘The Art of the Bad Deal’, in a flip-cover comic that also has a Zack Whedon-penned Serenity comic. Both stories have a common theme – a man and his ship. Dark Horse’s second freebie is a flip cover for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Guild. Combine both free comics together, and you will also have a two part story of Caitlin R. Kiernan’s Alabaster.
From other publishers for Free Comic Book Day: The Avengers, The New 52, Yo Gabba Gabba!, Simpsons, Mouse Guard, Transformers, Peanuts, and a whole lot more!

There’s only one release this week, but it isn’t until Saturday, when you can head to a participating comic shop for Free Comic Book Day. Among the offerings is a two-sided Star Wars/Firefly book from Dark Horse – no, not a crossover, just two stories. And yes, there are plenty of kid-friendly choices and they really are FREE, so bring the younglings.
Our next couple book releases are paperback reprints: Paul S. Kemp’s The Old Republic: Deceived (May 29) and Timothy Zahn’s Choices of One (June 26.)
No, it’s not a crossover, sadly. But you do get two-in-one: A Han and Chewbacca story shares a flip book with the Serenity folks, both tales penned by Zack Whedon (he co-wrote Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog with brothers Joss and Jed.) And Dark Horse will offer another flip book with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Guild. (via)
Free Comic Book is, as always, the first Saturday in May: This year, that means May 5, 2012. You’ll be able to find a participating comic shop near you with the Comic Shop Locator.
Not able to make it to a comic shop Saturday? Or were they out of the Star Wars comic before you got there? Well, stop your moping: Dark Horse will be putting their offerings up for free on Digital.DarkHorse.com come Wednesday. You don’t even need to download an app – you can read them right in the browser.
Head to a local comic book store tomorrow to get free comics – including a Savage Oppress-centric Clone Wars offering from Dark Horse.
You can find a shop that’s celebrating the day using Free Comic Book Day’s store locater. Folks from the 501st Legion will be in costume at select locations, so check the website/Twitter/Facebook of your local garrison. (Or, if you know of one, post it in the comments!)
There’s no new Clone Wars tonight, but there are several tidbits of news.
First off, there’s another Chewbacca video and some finale rumor dispelling (Spoilers? Sort of?) going around.
On Twitter, an actress you might recognize reveals that she’ll be voicing a character… But given the lead time on these things, I’m guessing we probably won’t hear much more until next season.
More imminent is Free Comic Book Day on May 7 and StarWars.com has a preview of Dark Horse’s Savage Opress offering. (Psst, Avatar: The Last Airbender fans… That preview is over here.)
