Whedon’s people deny it, but IGN is claiming that Universal has given the go-ahead for low-budget sequel to Serenity. The film would be broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel or possibly go straight to DVD.

Oh, wouldn’t that be wonderful?! If they gave Joss enough to bring back the cast and produce a pretty good story, that would be neat!
Don’t know if Joss would want to do it for so little, but here’s keeping fingers crossed it’s more than a rumor!
