It won the Paley Center’s holiday special poll with 59% of the vote, beating out better but less infamous specials like A Charlie Brown Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Which are going to be played on TV ad nauseam anyway.) But the Holiday Special will be screened in New York and Los Angeles! Inflict it on your friends! (Thanks, Mike!)

So what exactly are they screening? Some bootleg 10th generation copy bought from some dude at a convention? Or is this and the official site retrospective part of a carefully and subtley orchestrated move on the part of Lucasfilm to revive the Special in hopes of eventual DVD sales?

Driver: I suspect they have a better copy than the bootlegs. Their FAQ mentions donations, so it’s entirely possible that someone (CBS? Crew? If not LFL themselves) gave them a decent copy.
