The American Film Institute has named the score for A New Hope as the greatest film score of all time. John Williams has three scores in the top 25, also including Jaws (#6) and E.T. (#14.) Rounding out the top five are the scores for Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Psycho, and The Godfather.

As well they should. It’s a brilliant score. It can tell the story all on its own. (And sometimes did when George’s writing failed him.)
Just hearing certain pieces makes me cry as if I were right there watching the movie. (Which is ironic, considering I’ve seen the Classic Trilogy hundreds of times, by now.)
