Wookieepedia makes a choice on canon

Wookieepedia has posted their new canon policy. Unsurprisingly, they seem to be keeping the (pre-Legends) status quo, using a modified version of the old canon hierarchy. The coming years are certainly going to be ‘fun’ for them.

(No, I don’t think the breast article is going anywhere.)

    1. They’re canon enough for the Wook, because they’re basically treating canon exactly the same as they always have, they’re just shuffling the terminology.

  1. “This means that, beginning with the Star Wars Rebels animated television series and the 2014 novel A New Dawn”. The 4-part Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic series starting in May will be the first canon story – and quite possibly also DHC only contribution to the new canon universe.
I think what they are trying to say is something along the lines of “from this point”.

  2. That’s a shame. I actually find the Wook to be of limited usefulness because they don’t separate out the various levels of canon and make it clear what comes from where. I mean obviously you can figure it out if you follow the citations, but if you’re looking for a quick overview of, say, what we know about Twi’leks, you won’t find it there because they’ll have actual info mixed in with stuff from non-canon (or less-canon–LF hasn’t ever treated the EU as canon) sources.

I wish we had a resource like Star Trek’s Memory Alpha and Memory Beta. Alpha contains only things from the TV shows and movies. Beta contains info from tie-ins, games, etc. So if you’re a fanfic writer who doesn’t care about the tie-ins, you can get info about Trek subjects without tie-in info cluttering up the feed.

I wonder if the Databank is going to stop linking to them. I wish they would for the sake of the ‘breasts’ fiasco (fan communities that are going to behave badly towards women and other minorities don’t deserve official recognition), but if wanting to de-emphasise the old EU is what does it, I wouldn’t complain.

    1. Yeah, I think they’re really shooting themselves in the foot here. I mean, it’s not like Leland and Pablo (before he left Twitter) weren’t dropping broad, broad hints for ages before the Legends announcement. But these past couple months have made it clear that the vast majority of Wookieepedians seem to be living in a weird little bubble entirely of their own making.
