Rumor: Mara Jade to be ‘introduced’ in Rebels as a bridge to Episode VII?

Imperial Mara Jade from TCG

Make sure your cynic caps are tightly in place, because this one is super sketchy.

Will Rebels introduce Mara Jade to the Star Wars screen? That’s what was yesterday labeled ‘speculation’ by Star Wars 7 News, who now say they’re received “tips” from “people close to the production” that this could indeed be the case. Here’s what was left as an anonymous comment on their site:

It can be said, that Rebels will introduce Mara Jade, into the film canon, sometimes appearing with the Inquisitor and she will be the living mother of Ben Skywalker.

Episode seven takes place, in 30 ABY. Jacen, and Jaina will be to Ben what Han, and Leia were to Luke. Ben is around the same age as his cousins. Chewie will be alive, and this is an all new timeline from 4 ABY forward.

Pablo Hidalgo, and Leland Chee have been consulting with Kathleen, and JJ, on EU elements, and characters from the database.

As of 2015 Books and comics will be part of the same canon, as Movies, TV and Netflix. Rebels has very strong connections to the ST, it will bring EU characters, ideas, and planets into the canon and it introduces two original characters for the ST, one Imperial, and one Jedi.

Is it plausible? Of course – it certainly doesn’t take a doctorate in EU-based speculation to come up with that theory. Is there really any truth to it? I haven’t the faintest idea – but it’s far too pat for me to buy it, particularly coming from a random anon. It’s exactly what “we’d” want, theoretically – of course I’m suspicious, and I urge you to be, too.

Star Wars 7 News also says that some of The Clone Wars bonus content will also include connections to Episode VII.

  1. Original comments. Feel the cynicism.

That is the sketchiest rumor ever to be sketchy and a rumor at the same time.

    “Movies, TV and Netflix.”

The first two are obvious, but what’s the third? Some expected SW Netflix content? Either the writer really has no idea what he/she is talking about or there’s more here than even Mara Jade.

It may be sketchy, it may be rumor, but it’s the most wonderful sketchy rumor I’ve heard in months! Bring it on. ;)

All we have on Netflix is this (also sketchy) rumor, but given the Marvel thing something probably will happen there eventually.

I’m sure there will be tie-ins from Rebles to Sequel Trilogy, but this is too much in my opinion.

I can buy that Mara rumor but… “Star Wars 7 News also says that some of The Clone Wars bonus content will also include connections to Episode VII”? Nope.

Boy, do I hope this isn’t true… What’s next? Thrawn as the main bad guy? Come on, JJ, be more creative!

I believe the Episode VII/Bonus Content connection is coming via Qui-Gon and Yoda in the final arc of the series. However, the connections might not be that apparent. They might be more implications, but we’ll see.

It would be neat for Mara to have a future in Star Wars as opposed to the other alternative of complete erasure.

I think TCW bit actually makes slightly more sense than the Mara thing, if you look at it in terms of George still being around when they wrote/conceived those eps. Of course, if things on the EpVII end have changed…

True. When you look at how Lucas stories things, the ambiguity he often leaves, even in his own work, I think the reorganization of the film probably still contains Lucas’ story. Most likely the huge gaps are what were changed.

I need to find the quote, because I’ve referenced it twice now. But I seem to remember Pablo calling the Yoda arc a “profound ending.” Maybe he just meant in the way it has Yoda probably making a contingency plan for the Jedi purge, or maybe because of the direction in which it pointed?

Either way, I’m looking forward to watching my German YouTube versions since they are apparently getting the announcements first.

I’d love for this to be true. While we’re hoping, maybe they’ll resurrect Anakin Solo, and we can pretend NJO never happened.
