Rumor: Two working titles for Episode VII?

FRYSQUINT: SEQUEL TRILOGY RUMORS: Take seriously at your own risk.Oh, Latino Review. Today, Kellvin Chavez says he was “exclusively told” that George Lucas had two working titles for the film when he handed it over to Disney: Return of the Sith and Rise of the Jedi.

Will these pan out, or are they just more bunk we’ll remember fondly come 2026? I suspect they’ll join Rise of the Empire, The Creeping Fear and Balance of the Force (and, probably, A New Dawn, which I’m pretty sure was a fanfic I read back in ’97, not that it matters) as fandom-driven titles that never came to be. After all, making up somewhat convincing titles in the style of Star Wars isn’t all that hard.

And, come on: This is a fandom that really loves our acronyms. We already have a ROTJ and a ROTS; a second of either? Highly unlikely.

  1. Well, it’s better (i.e. more believable) than A Shadow Falls, The Rebellion Rises Forth and The Jedi Masters, but I’m still hoping for something legitimately pulpy and 30esque. Episode VII – Danger from the Abyss. Episode VII – Tempest of Terror. Episode VII – The Dark Awakening.
Or JJA could just call it Into Darkness and start the Star Trek Wars (followed by the Star Wars Trek).

  2. You can tell a James Bond movie from the title – does it have to be the same with Star Wars?

  3. I think Episode’s 7 title will be similar to that of The Phantom Menace and A New Hope. If you take away hindsight those two movie titles sync somewhat together. Just the way Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes back, sync’s by describing an action rather than a person. Then obviously ROTS and ROTJ, that’s self explanatory how those match up. So I expect a similar formula to happen for 7,8,9. So 7 should describe something a little mysterious, but is in reference to a person in a way, but also involves implications for the entire galaxy.

  4. Return of the Sith or Rise of the Jedi? Let me guess, the middle movie is going to be called The Sith Strike Back.

    1. Joao: I’m not sure how you’re even seeing your avatar – I don’t have Gravatar support on this template – but you should be able to change it at gravatar.com. That’s the service that links a picture with your email when you comment on sites that support it. (As WordPress does – but the only place I ever see the avatars on CJ is the admin.)
