Rumor: Possible timeline placement for Rebels?

Rebels: The Ghost

Apparently on the latest Bleeding Cool podcast, they reveal a number of details on the new animated show, Rebels. According to Making Star Wars, they give it a more specific date range – eight years after Revenge of the Sith, or 12 before A New Hope. They also have the basic storyline of the show’s premiere movie, but I’ll spare you that due to possible spoilers – head over to either of the links to see/hear it for yourself.

Rebels will debut with the movie on the Disney Channel sometime next fall, with the series following on Disney XD.

And, FYI:

  1. It’s actually 11 years before Revenge of the Sith because Sith is 19 years before A New Hope so 19-8=11. So, Rebels is set 11 years before ROTS.

  2. Hmm. I was hoping it would be closer to ANH, and with pre-established characters. But I’ll reserve judgment, of course.

  3. Yeah, they said Luke and Leia were 7 and then he said “or 8.” I just went with 8 and rounded the era out to 20 years like they always do when talking about the Dark Times.

If their podcast report is accurate, I doubt we will know exactly what year things take place in anyways. How many years did it take to get specifics on much of The Clone Wars? I know a lot of that was Lucas and the anthology series concept, but why box yourself in early?

On my podcast, me and Johnamarie from the Wookieegunner.com were trying to guess this just yesterday for fun. We decided the ten year mark would be a good place to put it because you’re so in between trilogies, far enough from Episode III but still far from Episode IV. It appears they may have actually gone that way…

  4. Honestly, I don’t think the timeframe will matter much anyway. Sure, the sticklers can argue for the next 10 years over the exact timeline of Rebels (and they will), but the rest of us probably won’t care anyway. It’s The Clone Wars all over again: Let’s enjoy the good, ignore the bad and worry about the timeline placement later (or never).

  5. I don’t think the anti-Imperials in the galaxy achieved anything of note whatsover in the first 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, so there’s little to tell. That decade is about the Rise of the Empire, the surviving Jedi being hunted down, innocent people getting massacred and things generally getting worse and worse – not the Rebels and new hope for the future.

So I think Rebels will be limited to the 9 years preceding the Battle of Yavin. Maybe less than 9 years.
