Rumor: Peter Pan actress, Magic Mike actor up for Episode VII roles

Latino Review is saying today that Rachel Hurd-Wood (Wendy in 2003’s Peter Pan) has read for the role of “the daughter of Princess Leia (and presumably Han Solo.)” They also say that Ryan Gosling has declined the role they reported earlier… But that Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike, I Am Number Four) is also “meeting,” possibly for the same role, which LR previously identified as Luke Skywalker’s son.

I have nothing against Hurd-Wood – she has the look, at least – but Pettyfer? Pass. Of course, even LR is hedging their bets on this one, so I wouldn’t go counting them in just yet.

They do, however, say that “major casting news” is coming very soon from Lucasfilm… Will we finally get some confirmation of Hamill, Ford and Fisher? Other returning actors? Or someone totally new?

  1. Gosling would be too old for the role of Luke’s son (he’s 33). The other two – Hurd-Wood and Pettyfer – are both around the right age: 23. If we’re picking up 30 years after ROTJ, these actors could portray kids born after the Rebellion finally ended and the OT heroes could settle down, marry and start families.

    1. Well, we don’t know the actual timeframe yet, so it’s possible that the returning actors will be playing older than their actual ages, which would allow for some variety in the kid’s ages.

Honestly, we just have no idea, period, aside from what’s given in the casting call, and even there we’re just guessing at who those characters will end up being: LR saying they’re Skywalker or Solo kids doesn’t mean it’s true.

  2. Oh wow – Hurd-Wood was fabulous in Peter Pan. I remember I was rooting for her to get cast in Harry Potter, back in the day when I followed Harry Potter casting news intently.

  3. In my opinion, Peter Pan is one of the best fantasy films every made, and Ms. Hurd-Wood was definitely very charming. 10 years ago. :-o
I have never even heard of Mr. Pettyfer, but just from the looks of him, he would probably not do much worse than Shia LaBeouf in Indy 4 or Hayden Christensen in the prequels. Then again, I was hoping for a little more… ;-)

  4. Hey, remember that bullshit rumor I started as clickbait? Well, I have now decided that he “turned down” the role.

  5. If we can believe LR at all (ha) I’d rather have Efron than Pettyfer. As lame as the jokes would be, at least he doesn’t come across as a douche.

I’d say I hope for a surprise, but then I fear we’d end up with our own Affleck situation. Do Not Want.

  6. It could be worse, though. We could end up with one of the douchey guys from Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, 90210, The O.C. or [insert show with terrible teenage douches here].
Or with Michael Cera. Who wouldn’t be douchey, but seriously out of place.
