Denning’s Crucible gets a blurb

Crucible Knights’ Archive spotted that Troy Denning’s Crucible, the first Big 3 adventure set after Fate of the Jedi, now has a blurb in the Random House catalog.

When Han and Leia Solo arrive at Lando Calrissian’s Outer Rim mining operation to help him thwart a hostile takeover, their aim is just to even up the odds and lay down the law. Then monstrous aliens arrive with a message, and mere threats escalate into violent sabotage with mass fatalities. When the dust settles, what began as corporate warfare becomes a battle with much higher stakes—and far deadlier consequences.

Now Han, Leia, and Luke team up once again in a quest to defeat a dangerous adversary bent on galaxy-wide domination. Only this time, the Empire is not the enemy. It is a pair of ruthless geniuses with a lethal ally and a lifelong vendetta against Han Solo. They will stop at nothing to control the lucrative Outer Rim mining trade—and ultimately the entire galactic economy. And when the murderous duo gets the drop on Han, he finds himself outgunned in the fight of his life. To save him, and the galaxy, Luke and Leia must brave a gauntlet of treachery, terrorism, and the untold power of an enigmatic artifact capable of bending space, time, and even the Force itself into an apocalyptic nightmare.

The book is still due out on July 9.

  1. Uh-oh.

    Bending leads to time.
    Time leads to travel.
    Time-travel leads to… suffering!

“Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh… everything’s perfectly all right now. We’re fine. We’re all fine here now, thank you. How are you?”

  2. The only thing that makes me happy is that Luke and Leia will be teaming up. We need more of them working together in the EU, please. Remember they are family. Kthnx.

  3. … maybe this will be Episode 7…

Now I feel sick for having thought that. Share in my misery all, share in my misery.

Why, why do we have to keep coming up with even more awesomely dangerous superweapons? Why must Denning keep messing with time? Why do I already know that I will buy this regardless?

  4. I honestly feel like this book is going to set up a continuity break with the EU. We know that despite Ep VII, the EU will continue soldiering on (Sword of the Jedi is upcoming, after all). But I had this sneaking suspicion before this blurb came out that Crucible was going to split the EU.

My guess is there will be two continuities. An EU that continues post-Crucible and a second continuity that follows the events of the new Episode VII-IX trilogy plot-line.

  5. This blurb is like a master-class in making me less interested in a story as it develops.

Doing a favor for Lando? All right, it’s been done but I’m up for it. Mysterious aliens? Ditto. Corporate espionage? Well, that’s a little different/fun! Old adversaries return? Oh, never mind then. Struggle of a lifetime? Well I’ll be: This really is a Troy Denning book, after all. Time warping super-weapon? Oh give me a break here, guys!

Actually, wait, you know what? This reads just like a blurb for one of the lesser ’90s Bantam-Spectra titles.

  6. I look forward to this book. The blurb confirms my suspicion that it will open up a chance to tie the ST with the EU. Which is, IMO a good thing.

Even without that, I think this sounds fun – and I look very much forward to see the Big 3 working together again!

  7. >>This sounds dumb

    LOL
A somewhat brutal assessment but I agree. ;-) Plus: Does this book matter? Could it matter any less? Wouldn’t it have been better to shelve the whole thing until the story for the sequels is set in stone?

  8. Man, it seems as if the EU has been recycling plots over and over again. And I seriously don’t think this will tie in with Episode VII.
