Out this week: The Last Jedi. No, the other one.

The Last Jedi (detail)Out Tuesday is Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnoff’s The Last Jedi, which continues the story of Jax Pavan from the Coruscant Knights book.

Wednesday has plenty to offer comic fans, with Agent of the Empire: Hard Targets #5 and Dawn of the Jedi: The Prisoner of Bogan #3. Plus there’s the third printing of Star Wars #1.

Our next novel release won’t be until May, with Tim Lebbon’s Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void.

  1. I don’t suppose I could get a couple of opinions about the Coruscant Nights books from you guys, could I? I bought the first one when it was new, but never read it. Are they worth the time?

  2. They’re not my thing at all and I never even made it past the first chapter of #1, but I don’t see anyone really hating on them, so that’s a good sign.

  3. The reason nobody is hating them is probably that nobody made it through them without falling asleep. And sleep reading usually doesn’t lead to hate (though it can lead to suffering).

Seriously: I loved the start of the first book but even right then and there things pretty much fell apart and got boring as hell, with Vader playing a villian-of-the-week type role that wasn’t really convincing or interesting to me. The basic premise was pretty cool, I think: Star Wars goes film noir. And for the first couple of chapters, that actually works fairly well. But a film noir usually needs some sort of “case” or convincing femme fatale or drug/prostititution/smuggling operation and either there wasn’t one or I can’t remember it for the life of me. And I’m not sure what would be worse.

So all in all it’s a meh thing. But it could have been great. And it actually got me to commission a film noir Star Wars piece just because I liked the first couple of chapters so much. Which is unusual even for me. If only the rest of these books had been as inspiring.

  4. I’ve read the first three Coruscant Nights books. I actually think the series gets significantly better after the first book. I enjoyed them all. I’ll definitely be picking up the fourth one.
