The Clone Wars calls in a Doctor: David Tennant guests on Saturday’s episode

Ex-Doctor Who star David Tennant voices the droid Huyang, who helps the young Jedi on their lightsaber quest in ‘A Test of Strength.’ After watching IGN’s exclusive clip, I’m surprised no one guessed this one at Celebration!

Tennant is best known for playing the Tenth Doctor on Who, but may also be familiar to genre fans from his turn as Barty Crouch Junior in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

  1. to be fair, when the episodes were aired as the super secret kids panel showing of Young Jedi at CVI, probably most of the audience was not trying to identify if there were celebrity voices in it. Huyang plays a very big role in the episode, and now i’ll watch it looking for any DW reference.

  2. Or maybe there just weren’t a ton of DW fans, or … I think, if I had been there, I would have been ‘WHY is that voice so familiar?’ I might not have pinpointed it exactly, but the more he goes on, the more he sounds like regular Tennant. Still, I was coming off mainlining all of modern DW at the time of CVI; A long-term fan might be far enough removed that it just doesn’t occur.

  3. considering that half the audience was under 11, i’m not sure how many hardcore whovians there were. personally, i’m pretty weak at identifying voice actors by their cartoon voices. and i was watching it for the story and magic than trying to pick out the cast.

and you were mainlining a lot of DW at that time, while it had been a while since Tennant had been on.

  4. Well, parents and such. Though you do seem to be the only fan media dude there, so maybe there were guesses, they just didn’t get much air.

    …Exactly what I just said.
