GL took a total 180 on the prequels. The first three films were fairly serious fantasy/drama affairs with mythic undertones. The prequels were all about Flash Gordon, basically the films he always wanted to make. Fans just didn’t get the shift in tone.

Luckily, I’m fairly certain we have more SW in our future. Personally I want J. J. Abrams to direct ‘em.
