Move it, move it: First look at Kinect Star Wars

Microsoft and LucasArts will be formally announcing the game Kinect Star Wars today at E3 in Los Angeles. Entertainment Weekly has a preview, as well as some details on setting:

Kinect Star Wars will include a variety of modes set in various corners of the vast Star Wars universe established by the two trilogies. In the “Jedi Destiny” mode — which will be showcased at E3 — you play one of several new characters in a story that begins shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode One — The Phantom Menace and concludes against the backdrop of Chancellor Palpatine’s rise to power on Star Wars: Episode Three — Revenge of the Sith. However, the story will take players into environments glimpsed or referenced in the original trilogy (episodes four through six), including Bespin, the giant gas planet that’s home to Cloud City (see: The Empire Strikes Back). Judging from a video posted by Microsoft-affiliated developer Terminal Reality, the game will also allow you to square off against Darth Vader himself. Good luck with that.

I remain, as always, So Not A Gamer.

  1. I am the worst video game player ever. Seriously. I can’t even play Lego Star Wars without getting hopelessly lost.

But this game could be fun, I must say.

I’d have to actually get a Kinect system. But it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve bought technology for Star Wars.

  2. I’m a gamer, but I wouldn’t buy it. I don’t own a Kinect & I’m not shelling out the money for that & the game. I just don’t think its worth it.

  3. I’ll get into mo-cap gaming controls when I can summon an on-screen video game character to go fetch me a cold beer from my fridge.

  4. I suppose on the hard levels, you might actually need Jedi reflexes to play.

While the focus right now is on the tech – there is also considerable room for some story, as the timeline between TPM and AOTC is quite a few years where not much is known about the bigger picture as Palpatine is putting the pieces into place for the Clone Wars.

  5. As it always seems to be with previews of kinect games, they’ve shown us quite a bit without letting us really know much about it. It’s more of a commercial you would see on TV than something that shows off it’s potential at a big shindig like E3.

  6. Traditionally most Star Wars games are average to poor. With a few notable exceptions. I for one am more than bored with Lucas Arts insistence on only making games within the film era. What’s next, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice’s secret apprentice?
