Happy 34th Birthday, Star Wars

May 25th, 2011 by Dunc · 9 Comments

It’s May 25th, aka the real Star Wars Day. 34 years ago today, Star Wars was born into theaters. Crazy shit, man: But will the day bring something other than your standard birthday celebration? Let’s hope.

It also just so happens to be Geek Pride Day (do we get a parade?) and Towel Day.

No one has commented on this?!

I wasn’t there on May 25th, but I did get to see it in 1977. My life has never been the same.

“an adventure unlike any other” – for once a trailer that speaks the truth :D

Wow, um, that trailer is TERRIBLE.

I don’t know if I’d call it terrible…it’s just a slower, more deliberate, seventies style trailer. If it’s anything it’s misrepresentative, selling the film as more sprawling and serious than it actually was.

At the very least, it doesn’t commit any of the sins that modern trailers do. Hell, it doesn’t even hint at the Death Star or what it does. Leaves something to be surprised by in the theater.

And it happens to be my birthday, I’m 34 too. :)

Brian: Think of it as the polyester leisure suit of trailers.

    Lindsay: Happy birthday!

Yeah, May 25, 1977 I was studying for finals my senior year of high school. (Don’t you dare do the math.) I saw it a few weeks later. Life changed. Done.
