Roundup: Grand opening of Star Tours II approaches

Sick of Star Tours yet? Well, gird yourself for the coming week, because Disney cast members and now the public have been partaking of the ride’s soft opening. (Rebelscum has spoilers, as does Inside the Magic.)

The official grand opening on Friday will be webcast live, and there’s yet another (unofficial) report that George Lucas will attend. Confirmed celebrity attendees for the first weekend are Steve Sansweet, Anthony Daniels, Dave Filoni , Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor and Daniel Logan.

Meanwhile, the Disney Parks blog has a preview of the merchandise.

  1. I had a lot of fun on the ride! Got to see a few different scenarios, although not nearly enough variety, considering I went on the ride five times… ended up with a number of repeats.

  2. Going down for a family reunion thing in December. I’m dreading the lines, but I have a suspicion that I’m going to live on this ride.

  3. If you’re going to Disneyland, December can be okay. The Holiday stuff gets the most attention. I’m not saying you won’t have to wait in line, but it won’t be as painful as the summer lines. During the summer, Indiana Jones is like 90 to 120 minute wait on average but during the Fall it can be a walk on ride, if not 20 minutes or so.

  4. I don’t disagree, Jason. December at DisneyWORLD, though…can be an absolute boondoggle. I’m personally planning on sticking to Epcot and MGM as much as possible, so hopefully things will be better there. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised though.

I’ve always found that late February and early March are great for visits if you can swing the odd time of year. As long as you’re not there over a Spring Break week the weather is extremely comfortable and there are virtually no lines.

  5. Looking forward to visiting family in Florida next year, with this as an added bonus.

  6. So THAT’S what Ackbar would look like if Return of The Jedi was made now :P I hate CG so much.

  7. They wanted to replace Ackbar for the 2004 DVDs. There’s always a chance that could be on screen in the future. That said, Yoda in commercials has looked that poor before. Rendering and lighting are done on the cheap for a commercial.

I don’t know, I think CGI is great.
