Stargate takes its final bows

The last episode of Stargate Universe is airing tonight. It will be the first time in 14 years that there hasn’t been a Stargate series in production.

There are many Tweets from the cast and crew about their sadness over the demise of the show. But it looks like we’ll have a fitting ending.  In spite of the news of cancellation not coming until after they finished filming, producer Brad Wright feels we’ll find it a good sendoff.

Thanks, Stargate!

  1. I am very sad to see SG:U leave production. I remember watching with bated breath as the original SG-1 pilot aired on Showtime and watched it and SG:U religiously. (Time was against me with Atlantis, but I did like what I saw)

  2. I thought that this was a strangely fitting last episode, in much the same way that “Objects in Space” was a really good send-off for Firefly. Like with Objects in Space, there was no grand, final confrontation or denouement; just an acceptance of place and status and a promise of unseen continuation. It was quiet (by Stargate standards anyway) and simply dramatic, and it was content to close on a cliffhanger that grew and took its time rather than just being a last second reveal. All told, it was a fine capstone to a fine show that had only improved since its beginning. I think that I shall miss this show quite a bit.

  3. A very fine review, Doyle. That episode was a perfect send-off.

What particularly killed me was that gorgeous music and the final five minutes. It just spoke to how I’ve always felt watching Stargate: the adventure and wonder that I love so much about sci-fi.

    I am sad today.

  4. Shame, but it’s the same for us Trek fans, and it’s been over 6 years since Trek left TV (and I’m not sure when it’ll be back, probably another 6 or 7 years when the latest Trek films are done).
I think it’s good to have an open ended finish to a series, no wrapping all the loose ends up.

  5. Agree with all the comments so far. I really enjoyed SG:U and the way it stretched in new directions. Leaving the story open-ended as it did is disappointing but also fires up the imagination. Fanfic anyone?
