Shadow Games cover, blurb revealed

StarWars.com has first look at the cover and blurb for Michael Reaves and and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff’s Shadow Games. It’s very, um… Mainstream thrillery? Ehh.

Does this make you want to pick it up? Because it seems like the more we hear about this one, the less interested I get…

The GFFA’s version of Britney Spears with a mobster uncle gets a guard in the form of a character who doesn’t really die in a filler novel that was hyped up to be a big multimedia event. They do some stuff. Enter the character who used to be the most badass rogue in the original trilogy to keep us interested. Do more stuff. Solve a mystery. Wheee!

Short answer: No. Even with Michael Reaves involved, if I want a random mystery novel, I’ll pick up one of the random monthly offerings on the NYT Bestsellers List.

I plan to read it because I’ve enjoyed Bohnhoff’s writing from the blog posts she’s written about this book. The cover? Eh…better than some, not as great as others.

The covers for “Coruscant Nights” tried to look like typical noir mysteries, plus Twi’lek. This is only slightly more generic–I’m still pretty excited, because it’s Reaves.

If you’re going to do a tribute with the cover art, you have to add a Star Wars twist to it. This could be anything.

I’m not a big mystery book reader, so I’m not sure if I’ll read it or not.

I’ll probably read it, because I’m intrigued by the idea of a standalone story during this time period.

While I’m not impressed by the inclusion of Dash and Han, I am intrigued by the inclusion of Black Sun and other unsavory parts of the underworld. So, we’ll see, I guess.

    ehhhhhhhhhhh…

I wasn’t that into Dash Rendar the first time around. And why is Han always the “original character cameo” for this stuff? (eg: Death Troopers.)

I was really hoping that this would be one of those rare Star Wars novels with a female protagonist.
