Honestly, I don’t get the appeal of Transformers at all, but a lot of folks seem excited and/or insane about it. For them, the first trailer.

I loved the Transformers growing up– Transformers and GI Joe were on back to back in the mornings. :)
While the SW transformers just don’t do it for me, I can not wait to see the movie. I just wish the original voice of Starscream was alive to do the voice-over.
In honor of the trailer though, Riley is wearing her Optimus Prime onesie from Hot Topic. :)
Yeap, bringin’ this girl up right.

I admit it, I watched the cartoon as a kid. And I think the movie looks really cool. The basic premise is the same–two different robot factions come to Earth and start fighting, with humans ending up in the crossfire.
And really, the appeal of Transformers for me is the cheesiness. The movie in the 80′s was just the icing on the cake. Orson Welles as the voice of the bad guy, robots swearing, the heavy metal soundtrack, mass scenes of transformer death, Weird Al’s “Dare to be Stupid”, and so on.
If there’s no cheese in the new movie, then it’s just a CGI-heavy SF movie. But with Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime, it gives me hope that there’ll be something more to it than just a Michael Bay film.

I do remember watching the cartoon, but it was never something that grabbed me. It was just another one of those lame 80′s cartoons that existed solely to sell toys, you know?
Of course, I WAS obsessed with He-Man and She-Ra, so…
