Revenge of the Robot Chicken: Star Wars

swtv-rc-palpy1.jpgGreat news for fans of Star Wars parody: Robot Chicken’s third Star Wars episode will premiere December 12, with pretty-boy Zac Efron voicing Anakin. They’re trying something new this time:

“We’re telling more of a linear story this time that covers the series from start to finish,” says Green. Added Senreich says, “We wanted to take the Star Wars universe and see if through the eyes of our Robot Chicken: Star Wars Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Gary the Stormtrooper. We’ll still flip around the universe but we’ll get a unique perspective from the bad guy side, from people who just want to rule the universe.”

Whatever it is, I’ll tune in.

As for that other TV parody, it now has a poster.

  1. Very nice. I like the “variety show” format of the other Robot Chicken specials, but this might be an interesting way of shaking things up and may give us a better idea of how the other series may develop.

And just out of curiosity, are the Family Guy things any good at all? I’ve never watched them because I have a seething hatred for the source material, but I’ve always kind of wondered.

  2. And “source material” is completely the wrong thing to say there, what with the crossover nature of the specials. I just ever-loving hate me some Family Guy.

  3. I wonder how much more of these Robot Chicken specials they’ll be making before Seth’s full attention will be drawn to the upcoming animated show.

This also begs the question, how much fun can you make of the franchise? I mean,Seth and his writers clearly have a talent for it, but how long will it be able to sustain itself during the animated show?

  4. Doyle: I’ve only seen the first Family Guy special, and I wasn’t impressed. (I have seen a LOT of the show though, and… Yeah. Not a fan. It had some moments back in the day, but rarely holds up to multiple viewings.)

Alex: I’m not worried. This is Star Wars. There’s always plenty to mock.

  5. thankfully the second Family Guy Star Wars special (something something…) had a lot less of creepy pedophile guy as Obi-wan, and Meg actually gets a line in it (to the effect of “why don’t i get lines in these things?”)

but i find the robot chicken SW skits to be a bit funnier – generally i think because they know when to end a skit before the joke runs out since their animation is very time-consuming to do.
