Denning clarifies remarks on resurrecting Anakin Solo

Still dead.At the Fate of the Jedi panel, Troy Denning talked about a plot point that the Legacy of the Force authors were kicking around, and naturally, fandom took it and ran with it.

At StarWars.com yesterday, Denning addressed the squee and concerns:

Yeah — what I said was that we considered a way to use flowwalking to bring back Anakin. I also said that just because we consider an idea doesn’t mean it should be done.

When we began to explore what bringing Anakin back might mean for the rest of the EU, we decided the worms in the can were just too big to let loose. So, we decided to weld that can closed by making explicit the limits on flowwalking we had already been using informally since Dark Nest.

The idea of bringing Anakin back didn’t even make it past the “what if” stage — it was just one of a thousand things we considered that never saw ink (even in an outline).

So basically, kids, don’t get too excited: It was just an idea. (And I, for one, am happy it never got any further than that.)

  1. This shouldn’t have become a big enough deal for him to have to address it. He says basically the same thing in the video, but I guess people didn’t listen to that part.

  2. You know, as soon as they introduced the stupid “flow-walking”, I was fearing that they would bring Anakin Solo back at the end of the Legacy of the Force series. Glad they didn’t.

  3. As much as I’ve whined about the death of Anakin Solo, I don’t see any literary sense of bringing him back- they did more with his death than the reaction to the death of Chewie. Bringing him back would cheapen the experiences of the other characters, put Taihiri in a tailspin and post-Jacen we have a new Jedi come back from the dead?

    No thanks.

Now, if you wanted to reboot the EU to prior to the NJO… well then, Anakin and Mara would still both be alive and “Embrace the Pain” would not be a catchphrase in fandom.

It would be a great point to jump start things again. It’s working for Trek… :)

  4. As much as I hated to see Anakin go I think it was nesessary to move the story along to the Legacy series.I think his death was part of the reason Jacen Solo became Darth Caedus and because of that Legacy was a kickass book series

  5. If you’re gonna ressurect anyone, resurrect Vader. Star Wars with no Vader = teh suck.

  6. As far as I’m concerned, even the fact that they considered bringing Anakin back so far down the line and without any other reboots deserves a hearty *facepalm*, as does the whole flowwalking business from beginning to end.

  7. I’m not against bringing Anakin back…but if done, it would need to be in a way not easily duplicated….otherwise can of worms like the man said.

But then the EU kind of died with Anakin for me. So he’s about the only thing that would lure me back.

  8. Personally, I feel it was the biggest mistake they ever made to kill of Anakin. They did it just because George Lucas said he didn’t want to confuse fans with Anakin from the prequels and Anakin Solo having the same name. He wasn’t supposed to die, just not be #1. To kill off both Anakin and Jacen was disappointing to say the least, and at least for this former fan, lost me. There are prophecies about Anakin. Listen, if for nothing else than to bring back to Solo name, bring him back! I can see killing off one of the Solo’s kids, but two? Very disappointing. They could have done much better.
