Randy Stradley on Invasion, Legacy and more

Galactic Binder nabbed Dark Horse Star Wars editor Randy Stradley to talk comics (mostly Invasion, naturally.) I’m particularly approving of this bit:

Do not recycle dialogue from the motion pictures (unless, of course, you’re flashing back to an actual scene from one of the films). There is no need—ever—for another Star Wars character to say, “I have a bad feeling about this,” or “I find your lack of faith disturbing,” etc. Ditto for insertions of the “THX-1138” designation. After thirty years this sort of thing has been done to death.

Be sure to read through to the end, though, as there’s a hint down there that’s sure to make a lot of folks happy.

  1. Honestly? I think every SW book or movie should have one “I have a bad feeling about this” reference. It’s TRADITION, dammit! But the others, yeah.

  2. ” RS: So the twins from the Mos Eisley cantina are off-limits, eh? I’d kinda like to hang with the Wookiees on Kashyyyk. But I wouldn’t want to be fighting droids or stormtroopers. I want to find a place where I can enjoy the “Stars” part without so much of the “Wars.” ”

    This a thousand times, this.

But I agree with Kelly, “I have a bad feeling about this” should be the exception to the rule…partly because it’s something people, particularly people with intuition super-powers would say to one another.

The key is making sure it’s dropped in because it fits, not just for the heck of it.

  3. Hrm…sorry I should have just copied this sentence:

“I want to find a place where I can enjoy the “Stars” part without so much of the “Wars.” ”

I think that’s what the books lost with NJO. There’s was no stopping to enjoy the view.

  4. That was a good interview.
I agree that movie references are overly done, and at times a huge crutch. At this point in the EU the movies should be nothing but a distant, unimportant memory.
As for the Jedi woman, I’m vainly hoping that it’s Saba, or her master. Wouldn’t that be fun to see that apprenticeship and then Saba subsequent children (or whatever she calls them).
