Remembering The Phantom Menace madness

First up, nineteen pages of production notes, with lots of pictures and video clips from the belly of the beast. Then we have a look at the ‘One’ advertising campaign, and their ten favorite Phantom Menace posters. (I still say that teaser is one of the best posters for any of the movies.)

Over on Twitter, @starwars is soliciting fan memories.

Meanwhile, don’t forget our own TPM poll!

I still have a smaller version of the poster done on thicker paper I got from some store as a promotion on my wall. It’s still my favorite!

I remember seeing two of the One posters: Watto and the battle droid. Or did I even see Mace somewhere? Argh, not sure. ;-) But it was a great campaign, only once again: It tried to promote an image of Star Wars that the film couldn’t match, so the hype and the general disappointment were home made. Or to say it with Obi-Wan: “You did that yourself.”
BTW the teaser poster is still up on display at my local theatre. Been there for 10 years, and guess what the only other vintage poster is? Casablanca! Now that’s some good company! :-)

The teaser poster (if you mean the one with little Anakin casting Vader’s shadow) is the best poster EVER. I still get chills when I see it. In one image, it explains why TPM had such a big impact on me, flaws and all.

“An angel! Nonsense! Everybody so describes his mistress;” / Goethe, “The Sorrows of Young Werther”

After such a line, I returned to hating TPM.
