Star Wars in the news: George hopes to add to his empire… And more Trek

Every building should have an 85-foot tower or two. George Lucas and company are looking to build a 262,728-square-foot digital film production studio in Marin County.

There’s just no avoiding it. Thank god that the Houston Chronicle is here to tell us that Star Wars and Star Trek fans are “galactically different.” Though for how long? Luckily Simon Pegg has given us permission to like both. Phew.

Yeah, I don’t get it either. Reporter initially shocked, but finds hope in the fact that people are still buying collectibles in the recession.

  1. That new building doesn’t appear to be all that huge. Are those towers really 85 feet high? It looks to be three stories.

Either way, nice to know that business is still good enough for Lucas to keep building things. (Which the community should appreciate for all the jobs.)

  2. Re: Simon Pegg–“Star Trek, in the end, seems to have won the war…”

This is silly. There need not be war between Wars and Trek. On the eve of the first big ST release in a looong time, it’s a tempting thing to say, but will probably sound silly in retrospect.

“In the end”? The end won’t come for a long time….

That’s a rather bizarre comment, considering the new Star Trek film borrowed so heavily from the original Star Wars film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd0j97RhZUQ

Not only is the plot so similar, but ILM’s work looks remarkably like the Star Wars Prequel FX work, so to me, Star Wars comes out on top – again! =)
