This actually makes me kind of sad. Star Trek, particular ST:NG, was *the show* we watched with my dad every week. The themes were smart enough for an adult but most episodes were clean enough for kids. It was a true family show. Star Trek and TV/film in general seems to be pulling further and further away from the concept of family programs, which strikes me as a little odd…. or maybe I’m just watching the wrong shows…

    More options, more legwork.

This makes me smile if for no other reason than I remember first being introduced to Trek because my dad watched the show.

I think in my case, it’s not my mother’s Star Trek. Apparently she gave me my bottle to reruns of the original series.

But this? I’ve already got Caitlin signed up to babysit that weekend so Dan and I can go see the movie! Bring it on!

I’m certainly looking forward to this, but I do think it’s sad that we’ll pretty definitely never have a Trek movie that is (a) an actual science fiction story and (b) essentially villainless ever again–and really haven’t since 1979. (Well, okay, there’s The Voyage Home, but that was all Disneyfied, so grar.)
